Clinical Practice

I am a Consultant Nephrologist at the Richard Bright Renal Unit in Southmead Hospital, Bristol and Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Bristol and Imperial College London. I graduated from Gonville & Caius College, Cambridge and completed nephrology training at the Hammersmith Hospital, London. I was awarded an MD in Nephrology at Imperial College London and remain active in clinical research with a special interest in end-stage renal disease, dialysis and cerebrovascular disease.

I have comprehensive experience in the management of glomerular disease and vasculitis, lupus nephritis, and complex hypertension, maintenance dialysis and renal transplantation as well as the provision of acute renal care.

I run specialist renal lupus clinics at Southmead Hospital (Mondays) and general nephrology clinics at Cossham Hospital and Chippenham Hospital (Tuesdays) and the Royal United Hospital Bath (Thursdays) as well as the dialysis unit at the Bath.

I have been clinical lead for haemodialysis and Clinical Director for the Renal & Transplant Service. I have held the post of Strategic Director for the Renal, Vascular & Transplant Networks at  North Bristol NHS Trust and Clinical Divisional Director for Core Clinical Services at North Bristol NHS Trust.

I am also clinical lead fo research at the Richard Bright Renal Unit and have been Lead for Renal Disorders for the NIHR:CRN West of England.

I have held the post of National Clinical Advisor for Dialysis and led the Dialysis Workstream of the NHS England Renal Service Transformation Programme (RSTP). Regionally I have co-led the South-West Renal Network.

Throughout my clinical practice and research I aim to improve treatments and outcomes in patients with kidney disease.
